Milwaukee, WI- The 28th Annual Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) Awards Show will be Monday, April 28, at Turner Hall, 1034 N. 4th St. in Milwaukee. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the Awards Show beginning at 7 p.m. A post-show party, also at Turner Hall, follows for those in attendance. WAMI nomination ballots are due to the association by January 30, and a complete list of nominees will be posted at www.wamimusic.com by February 25. Tickets will be available for $40, with the sale date and band line-up to be announced at a later time. The WAMI Awards Show will be held for the first time at historic Turner Hall, which recently underwent a significant restoration. The two-story 1882 Turner Ballroom was well known as one of German Milwaukee's key social destinations for more than 50 years. The ballroom was host to numerous art events, political forums, weekly concerts, and gymnastics competitions until a pair of fires in 1933 and 1941 forced the ballroom to close. The creation of the Turner Ballroom Preservation Trust in 2000 has allowed the space to hold its first performance in over 60 years, which took place in October of 2007. "We are honored to be able to hold our annual Awards Show at Turner Hall in its historic ballroom," said Lance Shellman, WAMI president. "The facility has always been dedicated to supporting and strengthening Milwaukee arts. It's going to be a great show and we are excited to be a part of Turner Hall's resurgence." In addition to presenting awards in 36 categories, including Group or Artist of the Year, CD/Recording of the Year, Male and Female Vocalist of the Year, and Song of the Year, the program will feature a variety of live music performances. 2008 People's Choice Awards winners from four quadrants of the state will also be announced.
